STAY

Strengthening the Team Around You (STAY)

STAY description

Photo of a decorated bus shelter

STAY began in 2018 as a local multi-agency response to the concerns identified in inpatient provisions. STAY is an enhanced intervention service for young people with a diagnosed learning disability who are open to Enfield CAMHS SCAN.

Initial requests for STAY are made by a core professional involved when there is a risk of your child having a mental health hospital admission or emergency placement. (In such cases the young person will also be escalated to the Enfield Dynamic Risk Register).

The STAY model of care is based on the principles of understanding the needs of a young person and their families/carers, to support the development of a safer, less restrictive, more capable and trauma-informed support environment with (or close to) their families in Enfield.

  • What do we do?

STAY aims to offer timely, flexible and intensive evidence-based consultation and if appropriate intensive support to families and other supporters who are experiencing significant challenges coping with the harmful or risky behaviour of a child or young person.

The STAY pathway of care is based on establishing a working partnership with the young person, their supporters and professionals with a focus on identifying appropriate measures that will reduce the risks of harm and the likelihood of a home placement breakdown.

Sometimes partnership working, consultation and risk reduction measures are sufficient, but if not then longer-term psychological or behavioural input can be offered, adapted to the circumstances of the young person and their family.

  • How do you access support?

STAY can only accept requests from core social care or mental health professionals involved: i.e. a social worker or a community CAMHS clinician.

Requests for STAY can only be considered if the family have consented to the CYP being escalated to the Enfield Dynamic Support Register (DSR).

A request for STAY may arise following a multi-disciplinary meeting such as a Care and Education Treatment Review (CETR) or a Local Area Emergency Protocol (LAEP) meeting, both of which are associated with the operation of the DSR.

If you are a professional and want to know more about making a request or what we offer please email beh-tr.enfieldcamhsscan@nhs.net, or take a look at our journey planner below.

What happens after a referral to STAY?

1. Request Received

We check to ensure that we have all the relevant information and a DSR referral has been consented to.

2. Consultation Call

STAY Lead will meet with professional(s) requesting STAY input as soon as possible to gather more information.

3. Initial Meeting with Family

STAY Lead will meet with family, sometimes alongside the social worker, to discuss the request for support.

We will undertake a rapid triage / initial assessment to identify immediate risks and needs and make recommendations.
