Here's more detail
Description
We provide free counselling and peer support for those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and who have no or limited funds.
Our peer supporters with lived experience of addiction are the first point of contact as they better understand the worries and concerns clients will have.
They will meet the client to discuss their struggles with drugs and alcohol and help identify how ready they are for counselling before making their recommendations to the triage team.
Depending on the triage decision, a client will be placed with an appropriate addiction counsellor for a weekly one-hour session for six, 12 or 24 weeks. Throughout this time the peer supporter is on hand to help keep the client connected with the charity.
On request, we also provide addiction awareness sessions and training for organisations and institutes, and drop-in sessions at community centres and other VCS sector venues.
- Who works in the team?
Counsellors, primarily CBT, who have clinical supervision in place.
Peer supporters who have lived experience of addiction, mentoring and working with people in recovery.
