Service description

Kooth is a free, safe and anonymous online wellbeing service for children and young people.

Young people using the site can access a range of support services including one-to-one text based counselling sessions, discuss issues with their peers through online discussion boards, read and contribute to self-help content and record feelings via journals and goal trackers. The site is open every day, 24 hours a day; counselling sessions are available from 12 noon until 10pm on weekdays and from 6pm to 10pm on weekends.

The online nature of Kooth means that you can access help in a way that is most suitable for you, at a time that is convenient for you, 365 days of the year.

What will being seen by this service involve?

Young people using the platform can choose from a range of support services including:

  • Discuss issues with your peers through online discussion boards and live forums,
  • Read one of our thousands of articles or even contribute one of your own
  • Try one of our mini activities on the mini activity hub
  • Use the journal space
  • Use our goal setting feature
  • Professional support and advice via online chat sessions lasting up to 1 hour. To request a chat, simply select “chat” on the homepage and then “join that chat queue”. The text-based chat,  means there are no voice calls or video calls involved when you speak with the Kooth team. We try our best to chat with everyone, but if you are unable to get a chat right away, we recommend waiting a short while but if the wait is too long for you, try again another day or use the message option and we will respond – like an email.

Kooth is anonymous which means that we don’t ask you for details that enable us to identify you, like your name, email or phone number, we don’t record or track IP addresses.

What kind of professionals will young people work with?

Kooth is accredited by BCAP, we have a large team of counsellors and emotional wellbeing practitioners, you can find out more about the team on the meet the team page here

You can also choose to use self-help tools or join one of our many discussion boards and regular live forums to hear from your peers. All content is fully moderated by the team in order to provide a safe and age-appropriate space.
