description
Open Door is a charity that offers a range of free psychological therapies to young people aged 12-18 who live in Haringey. We can also see you if you are under 18 and have a Haringey GP.
We provide a safe space for young people to talk through a range of issues including problems at home, school, college or work; difficulties with relationships; problems with drugs or alcohol; anger or aggression; depression or anxiety; self-harm or eating difficulties.
We also work with parents / carers through our Parenting Teenagers Project (PTP) which can help those having difficulties parenting teenagers or young adults aged 12-18.
One size doesn’t ‘fix’ all, so we offer different types of therapy to help you find a way through whatever’s holding you back. You can read more about our therapies on our website.
Our therapists will offer ways to help you understand the issues that are worrying you and help you make choices or changes that can transform the way you feel.
We are able to offer:
Psychotherapy Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Young people are offered anything from a one-off consultation to two years of weekly psychotherapy.
- Referral information
Young people and parents / carers can self-refer to Open Door. Parents / carers can also call to refer their young person. Just call 020 8348 5947 or email us with your phone number at appointments@opendooronline.org.
Within four to five weeks you’ll be invited to an initial assessment with a therapist to understand more about your situation and how we can help. It will take some time before regular therapy can begin, but we’ll keep in touch with you and we have other resources that can support you while you’re waiting.
We offer face-to-face sessions in comfortable and fully accessible therapy spaces in Crouch End and Tottenham. Or you can have appointments by video or phone if you prefer. We offer appointments Monday to Thursday 9am to 7pm and 9am to 6pm on Fridays. You can come to appointments on your own or with a parent or carer, whatever feels right.
Open Door does not offer an emergency service so if you need urgent help, talk to your GP, or go to the A&E department of your local hospital.
We also take referrals from professionals through Haringey’s CAMHS; please fill in a CAMHS Referral form and send it either by email (beh-tr.camhsreferral@nhs.net) or by post to: CAMHS Access. M Block, St. Ann’s Hospital, St. Ann’s Road, London N15 3TH.
Please note: we do not accept professional referrals of over-18s.
- Service update
Due to lack of funding we currently and regretfully are unable to take new referrals for young adults aged 18-24 years unless they fit the criteria below.
We can currently accept referrals in this age group for: Haringey Care Leavers and young adults referred by Sister System. Please call if you would like to know more about these projects.
We are very sorry and are doing our best to raise the funds we need, and hope this will be temporary. If you would like to speak to our member of our team to see if you are able to refer please call us on 0208 348 5947.
If you are 18 or over, we recommend that you contact your GP for advice about further services. You can also self-refer to Lets Talk Haringey (0203 074 2280) and Mind in Haringey for other mental health and wellbeing support (0208 340 2474). Please see the crisis options on this website if you need immediate support by following the ‘need help now’ button at the top of each page.
If you would like to share your concerns about this please could we ask that you put it in writing, and we will pass your feedback on to local commissioners to help get the funding reviewed.
